West Ham United v Tottenham Hotspur: Hammers looking to spoil Spurs’ party
Following the disappointment of their FA Cup exit to Chelsea, it’s been a more positive few days for Spurs who have beaten London rivals Crystal Palace and Arsenal to ensure they will finish above the Gunners for the first time in more than 20 years.
Tottenham are still in with a chance of claiming the title and while the Hammers have not been as happy in their new London Stadium home, they would like nothing more than to spoil the Spurs’ party in this Friday night game.
The bookmakers aren’t giving West Ham too much hope of causing an upset here and ahead of this game, Tottenham are the clear favourites for a win at best odds of 4/9 with William Hill and Betway. The draw comes in at 41/10 with MarathonBet while anyone looking at a win for West Ham will be tempted by odds of 71/10 with MarathonBet again.
West Ham are unbeaten in four and while it’s not been a great season, that represents an improvement in form and it’s been enough to steer Slaven Bilic’s side comfortably away from the relegation zone.
Spurs, meanwhile, are on a long winning run in the Premier League and if you’re judging it on form alone, you wouldn’t be able to see past the favourites.
Individual Goal Scorers
Upsets in this game can happen and Spurs can be vulnerable away from White Hart Lane so, if West Ham are to get a positive result in this match, who are the men that will swing it for them?
The first goal scorer market is naturally dominated by Tottenham players with the Hammers’ first representative being Andy Carroll who is quoted at best odds of 9/1 with Paddy Power to open the scoring. Spurs’ Harry Kane is the favourite here at a top price of 3/1 with William Hill and SkyBet and the striker is starting to look his best again following injury.
Tottenham have options all across the pitch now with Dele Alli, who opened the scoring against Arsenal, quoted at best odds of 9/2 with Paddy Power and Stan James while Son Heung-Min has also been on target in a number of crucial matches and can be taken here at 5/1 with Winner Sports.
Of this bunch, Carroll has a decent record against Tottenham but with his injury issues, you couldn’t guarantee that he is a certain starter. Andy Carroll to score anytime at a best of 29/10 with 888Sport is a safer option while, in the same market, Tottenham’s Dele Alli is another tip at 7/5 with Paddy Power.
Other Side Bets
While Spurs haven’t conceded in their last two matches, both of those have been in the league against lower table clubs who came into the game with defensive mindsets. We expect West Ham to be far more attacking in Friday night’s fixture and based on that theory we’ll take Both Teams to Score at 4/5 with either Stan James or BetFred.
When the two teams met at White Hart Lane in November, they produced an entertaining 90 minutes that finished with a 3-2 scoreline in favour of Spurs. That would tend to back up our Both Teams to Score Tip but it may also suggest there should be plenty of goals in this one.
Over 2.5 goals will be seen as a safe option by some and this is quoted at a best price of 8/13 with Paddy Power but we would suggest being a little braver and backing over the 3.5 line at 6/4 with Paddy Power once again.
We’re certainly of the opinion that there could be goals in this one and our tips for the game are reflecting that. The result market is a predictable one and Spurs have the best form by far so they are short favourites but they could be vulnerable against a team who likes to attack so we’re sticking with the side markets for Friday night’s game.
- Andy Carroll to score anytime at 29/10 with 888Sport
- Dele Alli to score anytime at 7/5 with Paddy Power
- Both Teams to Score at 4/5 with Stan James
