West Bromwich Albion v Chelsea: Win and the Title Heads to Stamford Bridge
It’s seemed like a formality for some time and on Friday, when Chelsea head to the Midlands to take on West Bromwich Albion, they will be coming back with the Premier League Trophy if they can take all three points.
After a stutter at the start of April, Antonio Conte’s men are back on top form and the bookies are certainly behind the Blues in their quest to claim a title-clinching victory.
They might concede home advantage but Chelsea start this game as clear favourites and the Blues can be picked up at a top price of 4/11 with Paddy Power and Betway. The draw is quoted at best odds of 21/5 with MarathonBet while anyone looking to back an unlikely victory for West Brom can get as much as 9/1 with Winner Sports and BetBright.
A quick look at the form table shows those two recent defeats for Conte’s men including that unlikely 2-1 loss at home to Crystal Palace but overall things are positive with four straight wins since that defeat to Manchester United in April.
The form table doesn’t look quite so positive for Tony Pulis’ West Bromwich Albion and the Baggies have drawn one and lost four of their last five. With Chelsea on another winning run and closing in on the title, you simply have to side with the favourites.
Individual Goal Scorers
It’s no coincidence that Chelsea’s march to the title has come in a season when both Diego Costa and Eden Hazard returned to top form. Both men were subdued last year when their club finished outside of the Champions League places but their goals have pushed Chelsea to the top of the table.
Costa starts as favourite to open the scoring on Friday night and the Spain international is quoted at best odds of 3/1 with SkyBet and 188Bet. Attacking midfielder Eden Hazard follows at a top price of 41/10 with 10Bet while Willian has been in reasonable scoring touch recently and can be picked up at 13/2 with 10Bet and 32Red.
West Brom get a mention further down the page with Salomon Rondon quoted at a best of 11/1 with William Hill and Betway but with the home side so far out in the result market, Rondon may be a better option for an anytime goal at a top price of 4/1 with Betway again.
And, it’s in the anytime market where we’ll make out next tip with Hazard on offer at 16/11 with 10Bet. With 15 league goals this season, it’s tempting to take the Belgian in the first goal scorer betting but our preference there is for Costa and he looks a little too short.
Other Side Bets
There isn’t much value in the result betting for this game so other side markets could be a better option. Over 2.5 goals at best odds of 43/50 with MarathonBet could be a profitable selection but we’re not expecting too much from West Brom so that could rely on Chelsea netting at least three times.
As we’ve played a little safe with our first two options, our third bet will go a touch longer and in the Correct Score betting, a final scoreline of West Bromwich Albion 0 Chelsea 3 at 8/1 with either Bet365 or Paddy Power is the pick.
It would seem that Chelsea have had their dip in form but while April was a mixed month for them, four straight wins suggest this was no more than a blip. Of course the title is theirs but can they confirm that on Friday night?
West Brom are eighth in the table on merit and the Hawthorns is not an easy place to come and get a result but that recent form is poor and, when you consider the momentum that Chelsea have and the prize that awaits the three points, it’s impossible to see past the next Champions of the Premier League.
