Tottenham v Barcelona: Back Barca to Come Away with the Points
This time last season, Spurs were being written off in a tough Champions League group that included Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. Mauricio Pochettino’s side eventually finished as group winners, taking four points off Real along the way, and that proves that we shouldn’t dismiss the home team as they come up against the mighty Barcelona on Wednesday night.
Things haven’t gone quite so well for Spurs this time around as they went down to Inter Milan in week one while Barca completed a routine win over PSV Eindhoven but we still have a fairly tight result market here with odds against prices on all three possible outcomes.
Following the weekend’s domestic results, Barcelona head the result betting and you can pick up the Catalans at industry best odds of 21/20 with Betway and Black Type. A win for Spurs is next on the list at a top price of 133/50 with MarathonBet while the draw completes the betting at a best of 3/1 with BetFred.
It’s interesting to note that after a stunning start to the season, Barcelona’s form has dipped since that 4-0 victory over PSV Eindhoven in week one. Back in Spain, they have drawn two and lost one of their subsequent matches so Spurs are actually in better shape coming into this match.
Tottenham’s results against Real Madrid last season will also give their supporters some home but against the class of Messi and co, this could be a difficult night for the home side and Barca look reasonable value at an odds against figure.
Individual Goal Scorers
Some of the best striking talent in European club football will be on display during this game and it’s Barcelona’s Lionel Messi who starts as the narrow favourite to score first in this match at best odds of 15/4 with SportingBet. Tottenham’s Harry Kane isn’t far behind at a top price of 9/2 with 888Sport and SportPesa while you can also find that best of 9/2 next to the name of Luis Suarez as quoted by BetBright.
Those three names highlight the attacking menace on either side but there are plenty of other options if you don’t fancy them to deliver. Premier League fans will be familiar with the former Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho who is a threat from outside of the box and can be claimed here at a top price of 17/2 with Unibet and 10Bet.
There is plenty of goal threat as we continue to move through the list where Barca’s summer signing Ousmane Dembele is listed at a best of 17/2 with Unibet and 888Sport and while Spurs have been quiet since that mention of Harry Kane, there are number of strong alternatives.
Erik Lamela has been in good scoring form in recent Premier League matches and you can pick up the Argentinian at best odds of 12/1 with 10Bet and Unibet while, as a real long shot, you could look at Kieran Trippier and his threat from set pieces to deliver at a top price of 40/1 with SportPesa and 888Sport.
We expect both teams to get on the scoresheet in this game but it is hard to pick between them so we’ll switch to the anytime goals market where Philippe Coutinho looks nicely priced at a best of 3/1 with BetFred.
Other Side Bets
Having looked at the striking potency on either team, it may make sense to focus on the goals markets as we conclude this preview. We’ll start with Both Teams to Score which, perhaps not surprisingly, is available at short best odds of 18/35 with 10Bet and SportPesa.
That looks a likely punt but for better value, we’ll switch to the overs and unders markets where backing over the 2.5 goal line brings us a best of 14/25 with MarathonBet. There’s nothing to tempt so far but if we go a little further and back over 3.5 goals, that becomes more interesting at a top price of 11/8 with 888Sport and Smarkets.
While there is such attacking talent in both camps, it doesn’t necessarily follow that we will see a feast of goals but we think it’s likely here. Spurs have been vulnerable recently without their first choice goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and Barcelona can take advantage of that.
We could finish with a 3-1 correct score in favour of Barca at a best of 57/4 with 10Bet but hopefully these tips will be enough to secure a profitable evening.
- Barcelona to win at 21/20 with Betway
- Over 3.5 Goals at 11/8 with 888Sport
- Philippe Coutinho to Score Any Time at 3/1 with BetFred
