Stoke City v Liverpool: Value in the Hosts for Saturday’s Fixture
Liverpool must be a very frustrating side to follow: Dominant in last weekend’s Merseyside Derby, they followed up that 3-1 victory over Everton with a 2-2 home draw against lowly Bournemouth in midweek. This Saturday, Jurgen Klopp’s men travel to Stoke and when you consider those recent results, there is some excellent value in the match betting.
Liverpool go into this game as clear favourites and the best odds on the visitors currently stand at 10/11 with Bet365 and Betway. Stoke are very much the outside option at a top price of 17/5 with Paddy Power and MarathonBet while the draw completes the picture at 14/5 with Bet365.
We’ve seen how erratic Liverpool can be and that makes this interesting but supporters of a positive result for Stoke will be disheartened by their current form. Two away games for the Potters in 4 days produced two defeats and no goals and they have now lost three in succession.
But, we know that the Britannia can be a tough place to come and get a result so let’s not rule out an upset.
Individual Goal Scorers
We’ll come back to the result in our summing up but what about the men who can decide the destiny of this game? As you’d expect, the first goal scorer betting is dominated by Liverpool players with Daniel Sturridge the favourite to open the scoring at best odds of 9/2 with Coral and BetBright.
Roberto Firmino is in good touch and an option at a top price of 51/10 with 888Sport but the name that interests us here is Philippe Coutinho. With two goals in his last two games, the Brazilian is an option at odds of 6/1 to open the scoring but may be more tempting at a best of 21/10 with 32Red for a strike at any time in 90 minutes.
Stoke City options are a bit thin with no-one in reasonable touch right now but Marko Arnautovic is a general threat and has now scored 25 times in his Stoke City career. The Austrian may be a stretch at a top price of 9/1 with Paddy Power and Winner Sports to open the scoring but he is a decent punt at best odds of 10/3 with 32Red for an anytime goal.
Other Side Bets
Our first two tips are at slightly high prices so we’ll take a much shorter option with Both Teams to Score coming in at a best of 4/5 with Bet365. That may also be considered a big gamble, considering Stoke failed to register in two games this week but we’ve seen that Liverpool can be vulnerable at the back – as evidenced by the two goals that Bournemouth put past them on Wednesday night.
The Reds have conceded 39 times this season – more than anyone else in the top seven so this isn’t a bad punt. However, it may not be a high scoring game and backing under the 2.5 goals line may also prove fruitful at 26/25 with MarathonBet.
Coming back to the result and while Liverpool are obvious favourites, Stoke City can upset the best and that was shown the last time they played here when it needed a late goal for leaders Chelsea to edge a 2-1 victory.
No team ever likes coming to the Britannia and in a physical game, Liverpool could be vulnerable and while the home win looks tempting, we are siding with the draw at those odds of 14/5 with Bet365. If you agree, there are good options in the correct score betting too with a 1-1 result being our favoured bet at a top price of 7/1 with 10Bet.
Neither of these teams are particularly easy to call but that unpredictability will often lead to value and it should certainly be a tighter game than may pundits are expecting.
- The draw at 14/5 with Bet365
- Marko Arnautovic to score anytime at 10/3 with 32Red
- Both Teams to Score at 4/5 with Bet365
