Spurs v Manchester City: Back Shaken City to take the points

Having lost just two domestic games all season, few would have expected Manchester City to have endured the worst week of their campaign in the build up to Saturday’s visit to Spurs. Three matches have yielded three straight defeats to English opposition leaving Pep Guardiola’s men out of the Champions League and waiting for at least another week to secure the Premiership Title.

That poor run of form will have doubtless led to a flurry of bets on Tottenham as they prepare to host City at Wembley but it’s a tough call with odds against prices on all three possible outcomes here.

Match Odds

For once, Manchester City are an outside bet and they come into this game at best odds of 93/50 with MarathonBet for the win. The same bookmaker has the top price on Spurs at 77/50 while the draw rounds things off in this one at a best of 11/4 with Betway.

The form guide over the last six games shows just one defeat for Tottenham in the Champions League against Juventus but aside from that, Mauricio Pochettino’s men come into this one with five straight victories in the league. In contrast, City’s run of form over the same period is horrendous with four losses and two wins against Stoke and Everton.

If the title were on the line on Saturday I’d be happier to back the away side but that title isn’t guaranteed with Manchester United playing on Sunday. However, this Manchester City side can, if they get back to their best, have the edge over Tottenham and the value lies in those 93/50 odds on an away win.

Individual Goal Scorers

Harry Kane

Spurs are favourites for the win and their main striker also leads the way in the first goalscorer betting with Harry Kane favourite in this market at best odds of 4/1 with Boylesports. We wait to see if Kane will be credited with the second goal against Stoke last Saturday but it’s been another prolific season for the England striker and on home territory he’s an obvious favourite.

Following on is Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero at a top price of 5/1 with bet365 and Sport Pesa while his teammate Gabriel Jesus is just behind at a best of 11/2 with Boylesports. Those are the main contenders but part of the reason for the success of these two teams is the fact that they can score goals from all over the pitch.

For Tottenham, Christian Eriksen is on a hot streak of form in front of goal and the Dane is on offer at best odds of 9/1 with bet365 and Sport Pesa or we have Dele Alli at a top price of 10/1 with Boylesports while Son Heung-Min is slightly shorter at a best of 7/1 with Boylesports again.

Moving across to City and there’s Leroy Sane at best odds of 9/1 with William Hill and BetBright, David Silva at a top price of 16/1 with Sport Pesa or even Vincent Kompany who scored from central defence against Manchester United and can be backed at best odds of 50/1 with Betway to open the scoring.

There’s plenty of options but we’re going to take Son Heung-Min for an anytime goal at best odds of 9/4 with BetFred. The South Korean has found the net on 18 occasions this season and that’s a healthy return that includes a number of important goals against the bigger sides.

Other Side Bets

Both Teams to Score is available for this one at best odds of 8/15 with 10Bet and Sport Pesa and that would seem a logical bet to add to your slip. Tottenham have scored in each of their last six games while, in the same period of time, Manchester City have drawn just one blank in their 3-0 defeat away to Liverpool in the Champions League.

We’ll add that ourselves as our final tip of the game but if you want alternatives at longer prices then there’s plenty to choose from. Over 3.5 could be an option with two teams who scored five between them in the reverse fixture before just before Christmas and that bet is quoted at a top price of 13/8 with William Hill.

We don’t feel it will be quite so open and are predicting a 2-1 away win which is available in the Correct Score market at a best of 10/1 with bet365 and 10Bet. Overall, we’re expecting City to respond positively to a poor run of results and the following tips should hopefully give us a profitable 90 minutes at the same time.

Best Bets:

  • Manchester City to win at 93/50 with MarathonBet
  • Son Heung-Min to score anytime at 9/4 with BetFred
  • Both Teams to Score at 8/15 with 10Bet
