Spurs v Inter Milan: Make or Break for Spurs on Wednesday
As they return to Wembley Stadium to face Inter Milan on Tuesday night, the equation for Spurs is really very simple. Win and their Champions League qualification hopes are still alive while a draw or a defeat would condemn them to Europa League football at best.
The players will be confident following the side’s 3-1 win over Chelsea at the weekend and in the lead up to this game, the bookmakers seem to be sharing that confidence.
Tottenham start as favourites here and you can pick up Mauricio Pochettino’s side at best odds of 4/5 with Unibet and Black Type. Unibet also have the best numbers on the draw at 31/10 while a win for Inter Milan completes the result betting at a top price of 39/11 with 10Bet.
Spurs should have really taken at least a point from the reverse fixture at the San Siro and with home advantage are the more obvious favourites here. There is, however, some value in this market and we’re edging to the draw but before we make a confirmed decision, we’ll take a look at the men who can decide the destiny of this game.
Individual Goal Scorers
Tottenham’s Harry Kane hasn’t always been at his best this season but he comes into this game with a respectable tally of six Premier League goals and he remains Spurs’ most likely scoring threat. Kane starts as favourite to claim the first goal on Wednesday night and you can back the striker at 11/4 with Betway and 888Sport.
Behind Kane is Fernando Llorente at 5/1 with William Hill and 188Bet but the Spanish striker will almost certainly start from the bench. A better option could be Son Heung-Min who also scored against Chelsea and can be claimed at 7/1 with BetBright and 188Bet.
Just ahead of the South Korean is the first Inter Milan name on the list and it’s the dangerous Mauro Icardi. He is very much Spurs’ nemesis and you can pick him up at best odds of 6/1 with Betway and Black Type.
Elsewhere, there are other interesting names from either side and they include Christian Eriksen at 9/1 with William Hill and 188Bet, Lautaro Martinez at that same 9/1 with Betway and 10Bet plus Dele Alli at 11/1 with William Hill and Royal Panda.
The name that interests us here is that of Christian Eriksen who is a constant threat from midfield, particularly from set pieces. The Dane’s early season form was halted by injury and his scoring ratio is down in 2018/19 so far but he enjoys the Champions League and at odds of 13/4 with BetFred for a goal in 90 minutes, Eriksen is our first confirmed tip.
Other Side Bets
We could be risky with our final prediction of the match by taking a punt in the Correct Score market or, we can look at some of the safer side bets. Both Teams to Score might be an obvious place to start and this one is quoted at a top price of 9/13 with 10Bet and SportPesa.
That does seem a likely option when you consider that Spurs have been quite potent at home, even scoring twice against the might Barcelona – albeit in a 2-4 losing cause. Elsewhere, betting Over 2.5 goals could also be a strong bet and this is available at 4/6 with Ladbrokes and Coral but if you go a shade braver and back over the 3.5 line, this becomes more interesting at best odds of 9/5 with Unibet and 888Sport.
We’re committed to the draw and it could be a high scoring affair too. Spurs will need to go on the offensive but could leave gaps at the back and we know that Inter will be strong on the counter. A correct score bet of 2-2 is a tempter at a top price of 14/1 with 188Bet but we’ll finish with that Over 3.5 goals option. A jump from 4/6 for Over 2.5 to 9/5 for over the 3.5 line sounds look good value to us in a game with two exceptional attacking units on either side of the pitch.
- The draw at 31/10 with Unibet
- Christian Eriksen to score any time at 13/4 with SportingBet
- Over 3.5 Goals at 9/5 with 888Sport
