Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid: La Liga Giants Battle for First Leg Advantage
With no disrespect to either Monaco or Juventus, this really is the glamour tie of 2016/17’s Champions League semi finals. In a repeat of the 2014 and 2016 finals, Madrid’s two clubs will play out an intriguing two legs, the first of which takes place at the Bernabeu on Tuesday.
This will be one of the biggest events, in terms of betting, of 2017 so far so what are your options in the lead up to kick off at the best football betting sites?
Real Madrid are the favourites to win on the night and take an advantage with them ahead of the second leg. Carlo Ancelotti’s men are on offer at 6/7 with 188Bet. Victory for Atletico is quoted at a top price of 15/4 with MarathonBet while the draw is listed at best odds of 14/5 with SportingBet.
Those are the prices for 90 minutes of the first leg only so it’s a good time to look at the To Qualify betting. Here, Real are out in front again at a best of 4/6 with Betway while Atleti come in at 11/8 with a choice of bookies including Bet365 and Paddy Power.
Only one place separates these two in La Liga but Real do have a ten point advantage over their cross-city rivals ahead of this weekend’s domestic action. It’s also worth remembering that these two sides drew 1-1 when they met at the Bernabeu on April 8 so they are very evenly matched.
Individual Goal Scorers
We’ll come back to the result after assessing which players can swing the match in favour of their respective sides. A number of bookmakers are still to declare their side markets but the prices that are here are typical of what you will find elsewhere.
Cristiano Ronaldo predictably starts things off in the first goalscorer betting where he can be picked up at 3/1 with 10Bet and 888Sport to open the scoring. Alvaro Morata is next at 22/5 with 32Red and 888Sport while Gareth Bale is quoted at 49/10 with 10Bet.
Atletico Madrid’s main hope is their prolific French striker Antoine Griezmann and he is their first representative at 13/2 with 32Red while the formerly prolific Fernando Torres is out at 9/1 with 32Red and 10Bet.
There are so many options here with CR7 a worthy favourite but for value, Bale at a top price of 19/10 with 10Bet is our first confirmed tip of the match. It’s been a frustrating, injury hit season for the Welshman but he does rise to the bigger occasions and is a strong option to score providing he features on Tuesday night.
Other Side Bets
Our next tip goes for something a little more obvious with Both Teams to Score being quoted at best odds of 11/12 with 188Bet. It’s hard to see Real drawing a blank when you look at that line up and while Atletico have only scored 60 goals in La Liga as opposed to their opponents’ total of 101, they have Griezmann who is another player who seems to save his best form for the biggest matches.
As for the match winner, games between these two are often tight: both of those Champions League Finals in 2016 and 2014 went to extra time and then you have that drawn game from earlier this month.
A draw once again is very tempting but we favour Real to just edge this first leg. For better value however, a 3-2 scoreline in favour of Real Madrid is worth a small wager at a top price of 30/1 with Paddy Power or 188Bet in what should be a close but entertaining match.
