Manchester United v Rostov: United looking to end poor run
It’s been a bad 10 days for Manchester United and after a long period of wins, their form over the last three games reads as Drawn, Drawn, Lost. Manager Jose Mourinho would cite mitigating circumstances from their 1-1 scoreline in Russia last week with a poor pitch helping to level out the qualities of the two sides but they have the chance to make amends on a better Old Trafford surface this Thursday.
Manchester United go into this match as red hot favourites to win on the night at best odds of 3/10 with William Hill and Paddy Power. They have eased very slightly after that difficult run of games but they still lead the market by some way with the draw quoted at a top price of 5/1 with MarathonBet and a win for Rostov out at 12/1 with BetFred.
Those are the odds for the game over 90 minutes while the ‘To Qualify’ markets show United at 7/50 with MarathonBet and Rostov at 8/1 with 10Bet.
While Manchester United have undoubtedly been disappointing since their 1-1 home draw against Bournemouth, this is all about exacting revenge and with the greater quality in their side on a decent surface, they are the best option to win on the night.
Individual Goal Scorer
If United’s win odds of 3/10 aren’t proving to be exciting, you could always switch to the first goal scorer market where the restored Zlatan Ibrahimovic is favourite to find the net first at 5/2 with Paddy Power and Betway. The Swede’s potency and competitiveness were clearly missed as his team went down to Chelsea in the week and he will be rested and ready to deliver at that price.
Marcus Rashford is next at a best price of 19/5 with 10Bet but the youngster was struggling with illness in that FA Cup tie against Chelsea and it would be no huge surprise to see him rested for this clash.
Other United options include Paul Pogba at 6/1 with Boylesports for the first goal. The French international looked lacklustre in that tie with Chelsea in the week but is always a threat and is therefore our tip for an anytime goal at a best price of 2/1 with Bet365.
Where will the Russian threat come from? Aleksandr Bukharov scored Rostov’s goal in the first leg and is at a best of 14/1 with Paddy Power to open the scoring on Thursday evening. He’s a striker with a modest record of 11 goals in 64 league games so at best, a punt at 5/1 – also with Paddy Power – for an anytime goal is an option.
Other Side Bets
Both teams to score came in during that first leg game but with home advantage and a defence in decent form, Manchester United should be tighter at the back this time around. You could back ‘No’ in Thursday’s Both Teams to Score market at 3/5 with MarathonBet or there is better value with the same bookie on backing Manchester United to win to Nil which would come in at 23/25.
In the overs and unders market, backing over the 3.5 line is listed at a price of 52/25 with MarathonBet and we think that has potential for Thursday. Correct score betting shows a tempting best price of 12/1 with Paddy Power and 188Bet on a 4-0 home win but we’ll go slightly lower with 3-0 to Manchester United which is on offer at best odds of 7/1 with Paddy Power again.
Manchester United were due a dip in form after a long winning run and we know that it won’t be long before they are back to their best. One concern is the fact that Monday’s FA Cup defeat might have taken a lot out of them mentally and possibly physically but with the quality in the squad, they should dominate the second leg of this Europa League tie.
- Paul Pogba to score anytime at 2/1 with Bet365
- Manchester United to win to Nil at 23/25 with MarathonBet
- Correct score of Manchester United 3 Rostov 0 at 7/1 with Paddy Power.
