Liverpool v Chelsea: Blues to Edge Tight Contest

Saturday evening’s kick off in the Premier League brings us a clash between two teams who are still nurturing hopes of a tilt at the title and while most would feel that Chelsea have the upper hand in that particular quest, a win for Liverpool here would bring them level on points with their West London rivals.

There is plenty at stake therefore and we should be in for a thrilling 90 minutes of football but what do the bookmakers think of it all?

Match Odds

It’s one of the tighter markets for a Premier League game this season but one where Liverpool lead the way as favourites at best odds of 117/100 with SportingBet. The draw is then on offer at a top price of 133/50 with MarathonBet while the same bookie is offering those same best odds of 133/50 on a Chelsea win.

We know that Liverpool had that shaky start to the season but that’s certainly been addressed in a run of form that has taken them to the edge of the Champions League places. It’s four wins and a draw in the last five games for Jurgen Klopp’s men while Chelsea have four victories and a defeat in the same period.

Last season’s corresponding fixture ended in a 1-1 draw and the signs are that it could be tight once again but before committing to a verdict, we’ll take a look at the form of those players who could swing this game either way.

Individual Goal Scorers

Alvaro Morata

Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata is likely to be the key striker between these two sides and having scored nine in 17 since moving to the EPL, the Spaniard is favourite to score the first goal at a best of 24/5 with Unibet and 888Sport.

Behind Morata, Liverpool get their first mention with three names at the same 11/2 best price. Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino can both be taken at that figure with Boylesports while Mohamed Salah completes the trio at those best odds of 11/2 with Bet365 and Sport Pesa.

Of the three, Sturridge is used more from the bench so may be a better pick in the anytime market where he sits at a best of 9/5 with Paddy Power. Firmino is a threat from attacking midfield but Salah plays further up the field and has better form. The Egyptian has notched an impressive 14 goals in 18 games since moving to the Reds in the summer and the former Chelsea player offers some good value at that 11/2 price.

Other options in the first goalscorer market include Sadio Mane at best odds of 6/1 with 188Bet, Philippe Coutinho at a tempting best of 7/1 with Bet365 and Sport Pesa and Eden Hazard at a top price of 13/2 with Unibet and 888Sport.

Other Side Bets

Liverpool have scored at least three goals in all of their last five matches and while Chelsea have been quieter over the same period, Conte’s men banged in four against West Brom last weekend and another four against Qarabag in midweek.

There may not necessarily be a goal glut at Anfield on Saturday but this does tend to suggest that Both Teams to Score may be a good option even though it’s short for this game at best odds of 8/13 with Sun Bets and 10Bet.

Elsewhere, if you want to take those scoring stats across to the Overs and Unders markets, backing over the 2.5 line would seem fairly safe at another short price of 13/17 with 188Bet. It could be a better option to go over the 3.5 line at 2/1 with William Hill but as we saw last year with the 1-1 draw, a feast of goals is certainly not guaranteed.

As for the match result, a share of the points will be a popular call for many but while Liverpool’s form has been the stronger of the two and they have that home advantage, there is a little more momentum with Chelsea right now. They’re back in the title race and we’re backing Conte’s men to continue their push with a win at Anfield.
