FA Cup 3rd Round: Liverpool v Everton – Merseyside Rivals Collide in Friday Night Clash

Without any question, the tie of the FA Cup third round is Liverpool versus Everton at Anfield this coming Friday evening with a 19:45 kick-off.

League form often bears no relevance to Cup football – and Everton boss Sam Allardyce and his team will be hoping that rings true, as the Toffees make the short trip over Stanley Park to battle with their nearest rivals.

Liverpool currently lead Everton by 17 points in the Premier League table, but ‘the magic of the FA Cup’ can provide surprises at any time. With the heavy fixture schedule that both clubs have had to endure over the Christmas and New Year period, both teams are unlikely to be at full strength, which may offer more hope for the blue half of Merseyside.

Match Odds

The bookmakers obviously believe that the 17-point gap will have a major bearing on Friday night’s outcome as Liverpool are the strong 4/9 favourites with SkyBet and BetBright. This is the best price currently available on Klopp’s men at the time of writing. The Draw is next best with William Hill at 19/5, while the staunch Evertonian support can get their bets on with MarathonBet at the top odds of 37/5.

Taking all things into account, Liverpool are unbeaten at Anfield so far, this season, with just three goals conceded in their last ten outings in front of their home supporters. Everton scored one of those three goals in their recent 1-1 Premier League draw.

There are so many different angles to look at this game, but the one common denominator is that neither side will wish for a replay – especially with a very congested fixture list. Allardyce will undoubtedly set his team up to stifle their opponents, but Liverpool can be suggested as a confident selection to move into Round Four.

Individual Goal Scorers

Mohamed Salah

My strongest advice above anything in this particular market is to check the Team News for the game around one hour before kick-off before placing any wagers. Okay, if your particular First Goalscorer choice is not on the field when the opening goal is scored, your bet will be refunded, but let’s face it, there’s no fun in that.

Liverpool has a plethora of attacking options, none more than Mohamed Salah, who has already hit 17 Premier League goals. The Egyptian is a top price of 10/3 with William Hill to open the scoring, and continue his fine recent form. Klopp is likely to make changes for this game however, and Daniel Sturridge could get the starting nod. Sturridge can be backed at 4/1 with Paddy Power and 188Bet to score first.

Others of note are, Roberto Firmino (41/10) with 888sport and Unibet), Phillipe Coutinho (5/1 with Unibet and Boylesports) and Sadio Mane (11/2 with Paddy Power and Betway).

From an Everton perspective, the most likely candidate is Wayne Rooney, who is a top-price of 21/2 with Unibet and 888sport to open the scoring. Rooney will take any penalties for the Toffees as an added bonus. Icelandic international, Gylfi Sigurdsson was recently rested against Manchester United, and could be primed for an assault on the Liverpool back-line at the reasonable odds of 14/1 – again with Unibet and 888sport.

Other Side Bets

I have already pinned my colours to the Liverpool mast for this game, but I’m not prepared to weigh in at the prohibitive odds of 4/9 to win in 90 minutes, so I’ve come up with some other options.

Firstly, the 6/5 on offer with Ladbrokes for Liverpool to be leading at Half-Time and Full-Time is one bet that interests me. The Reds always look to begin games on the front foot – especially at home – and Everton may not be able to cope with the home side’s attacking barrage before the break.

Secondly, I’m obviously keen on Liverpool winning this game, but also, by keeping a clean sheet. The 11/8 on offer with Unibet and 888sport is currently the best available, but several other bookmakers are yet to offer prices on this market, so it could be prudent to check again nearer to kick-off time.

Finally, I love to place wagers on Correct Score bets – and this game is no exception. My selection of choice is for a comfortable 2-0 victory for Liverpool. This bet is available at the best industry price of 13/2 with William Hill.

Best Bets

  • Liverpool to win to nil at 11/8 with Unibet.
  • Liverpool Half-Time/Liverpool Full-Time at 6/5 with Ladbrokes
  • Liverpool 2-0 Everton Correct Score at 13/2 with William Hill.
