Everton v Arsenal: Gunners Looking to Maintain Good Form Against Resurgent Toffees
It’s FA Cup Semi Final weekend at Wembley on Saturday and Sunday, but our focus remains on the Premier League, and in particular the race for the Champions League spots as Arsenal, fresh from back to back home wins over Manchester United and Newcastle United, head north to take on Everton at Goodison Park, who could have turned a corner for under pressure manager, Marco Silva, with the kick off on Sunday afternoon at 14:15 BST.
The blue half of Merseyside have had two successive 2-0 victories over West Ham and Chelsea in their last two Premier League outings, and the Toffees will be looking for a London treble here.
Arsenal are in pole position currently for a top four berth at the end of the season. The Gunners trail neighbours Tottenham Hotspur by one point, but this is their game in hand, and an opportunity to enhance their claim of top level European club football for next season.
In what promises to be a high octane clash on Sunday afternoon in the Premier League, here below, we will offer some betting advice on hopefully making it a profitable experience also.
Event Date: April 7, 2019
Considering that both teams are in decent form of late, this fixture could be deemed difficult to base a strong opinion upon. The bookmakers have to form a market for the punter to gamble upon however, and Arsenal are the favourites to win the contest at the currently best available industry price of 13/10 with Black Type. The home win for Everton is the slight second favourite at 11/5 with Unibet and Betfred, while a stalemate at Full Time can be taken with Unibet and SportingBet at the top odds of 11/4.
The recent Premier League meetings between the two sides do not offer any substantial clues to the outcome of this game with both teams enjoying success in the past. Of the last six league meetings at Goodison Park, the score is Everton two wins, Arsenal two wins and two draws!
Another way to look at this fixture, is to compare the styles of each team. As previously stated, Arsenal have tended to struggle with physicality from their opposition. The Gunners have lost several matches especially in away fixtures with other teams offering a higher work ethic and their defence being over-powered. My view is that Everton do not have those capabilities over the Gunners, which makes Arsenal my selection at a shade over odds against to continue their strong recent run.
Individual Goal Scorers
The head of the First Goalscorer market is loaded with Gunners stars, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang installed as the 4/1 favourite with Betway to strike first in the game. Fellow Gunners strike partner, Alexandre Lacazette is priced up at 5/1 – again with Betway, while Everton’s first interest in this market comes from Brazilian attacker, Richarlison, who could delight the home supporters at the best odds of 13/2 with Betway once more.
Arsenal’s wantaway Welsh midfielder, Aaron Ramsey, who will be wearing the black and white stripes of Juventus next season, has performed admirably of late and could get involved in the scoring once again at 11/1 with Ladbrokes and William Hill. German schemer, Mesut Ozil also looks to have found much improved form for boss Unai Emery in recent outings for the Gunners, and is also worthy of consideration at 23/2 with Unibet and 888Sport.
Other strong hopes of First Goalscorer options for Everton, could come from Icelandic international Gylfi Sigurdsson at 8/1 with 10Bet, while winger, Bernard scored his first Premier League goal of his Everton career at West Ham last Saturday, and at 16/1 with several firms, including Coral and Betfred he could net again here.
Other Side Bets
It is fair to suggest that both team’s defences are not the most ‘watertight’ in the Premier League, so it doesn’t take a mathematician to figure out that goals are a likely commodity on Sunday afternoon. Over 2.5 Goals in the game is short at the top price of 17/25 with Betway, so it may be worth chancing the extra goal with Unibet and 888Sport for Over 3.5 at 7/4. The last four Premier League meetings between the two sides have yielded 19 goals, which bodes well for the bet.
After checking the best industry price on Both Teams to Score at 4/7 with several firms including, William Hill and Betfred, I have decided to bypass this market in favour of Arsenal to win the game and Both Teams to Score. BetFred offer the top value of 3/1 on this punt, and it rates as my strongest selection of the game.
As usual, we love a Correct Score plunge in our betting previews, and our selection for Sunday’s game is a 3-1 away win for the Gunners. William Hill and Ladbrokes offer the best value here of 16/1 and it is worth a little nibble in my view, in what promises to be an entertaining game that will be full of goalscoring opportunities at both ends of the pitch.
- Arsenal to win the match and Both Teams to Score at 3/1 with BetFred
- Mesut Ozil to be First Goalscorer at 23/2 with Unibet
- Arsenal 3-1 Everton Correct Score bet at 16/1 with William Hill
