Europa League: Week Three Betting Odds and Preview

It may be seen as Europe’s secondary competition behind the UCL but we’ve already seen some thrilling games in this season’s Europa League and we should be in for some more top class action when the tournament returns on Thursday night.

There are 24 games in total taking place across the continent and while we don’t have time to cover them all, there are some standout fixtures that look to hold some exceptional value from a betting point of view.

Crucial Battle in Group B

Celtic have made an uncharacteristically poor start to the season in all competitions and Brendan Rodgers’ team face a vital tie away to RB Leipzig in Group B. With Red Bull Salzburg having taken maximum points from their two games, the result of this match could decide who joins them in the knockouts

Both teams have three points but it’s Leipzig who start as clear favourites at best odds of 9/20 with MarathonBet while the same bookmaker has the top price on the draw at 41/10. Victory for Celtic completes the market at 6/1 with BetBright.

Clash of the Giants in Group E

Both Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon have maximum points from their first two games so something has to give when the teams meet in Portugal. This is a 5.55pm kick off and there is value in the market with Arsenal favourites at a best odds against price of 33/25 with MarathonBet.

Victory for Sporting is available at a top price of 40/17 with Unibet while the draw follows at a best of 62/25 with MarathonBet once again.

Group F Showdown

AC Milan head the table in Group F, two points clear of Real Betis in second place and those two sides meet at the San Siro in another early 5.55pm kick off. There could be some decent value in this one because we’re getting behind Milan and while they are odds on, the price has only just dropped below Even Money.

The hosts have best odds of 99/100 with MarathonBet for the win while the draw is at 67/25 with MarathonBet again and a victory for Betis is out at a top price of 3/1 with SportingBet.

Surprise Group G Leaders

Steven Gerrard, Rangers manager

Steven Gerrard, Rangers manager

New Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has made a great start to managerial life and his side have been particularly impressive in Europe. The Scots lead Group G with four points and while Thursday’s opponents Spartak Moscow are down at the bottom, they will be a bigger threat to Gerrard’s men than their position suggests.

Rangers host this one at Ibrox and are favourites at best odds of 27/20 with 888Sport to take another three points. Victory for Spartak Moscow follows at 21/10 with Betway and BetBright while the draw rounds this one off at a top price of 127/50 with MarathonBet.

Once again, a market with three odds on prices carries value but a win for the away team is a serious tempter.

Group H – the Group of Death

One section in any tournament is always labelled the ‘Group of Death’ and for the 2018/19 Europa League, most pundits were looking at Group H. Last season’s finalists Marseille were put together with Eintracht Frankfurt and Lazio with Apollon Limassol supposedly there to make up the numbers.

After two games, Marseille and Apollon have one point apiece with Eintracht leading the way on four points, followed by Lazio on three so there are two vital fixtures coming up in week three.

Eintracht take on Limassol and should extend their lead at the top with a comfortable win. The Germans are favourites here at best odds of 51/100 with MarathonBet. The same bookie has the top price on the draw at 37/10 with a win for Limassol coming in at 11/2 with BetFred.

But the real crunch game in this group comes from France with Marseille hosting Lazio. A win for the home side will leave this section wide open but if Lazio take the points, they will cut last year’s beaten finalists adrift.

We’ve an interesting market here with Marseille starting as favourites at best odds of 19/20 with Betway. Then it’s over to MarathonBet once again for a win for Lazio at 72/25 and the draw at 61/20.

A Stroll in Group L?

The remaining British club in this season’s Europa League are Chelsea who have maximum points and therefore lead the way in Group L. The Blues are in a weak section and should maintain or extend that lead when they host BATE Borisov on Thursday night.

The market shows Chelsea way in front at best odds of 14/103 with MarathonBet for the win while the same bookmaker quotes the top price on the draw at 44/5. An unlikely victory for BATE is available at a best of 33/1 with Ladbrokes and Coral but the home win is the bet if you like to take small profits.

This round of fixtures will take us to the halfway point in the group phase but already, there are some vital ties that could decide progression or elimination for some teams. Our first tip comes from Portugal where a win for either Sporting Lisbon or Arsenal will effectively confirm a place in the knockout round.

It’s a tough away trip for the Gunners against one of the stronger teams in this competition but after a long unbeaten run in the league, Arsenal have the quality and momentum to come through and they look good value at 33/25.

Our second tip comes from Group G where Rangers look vulnerable. Steven Gerrard’s men were impressive in beating Rapid Vienna 3-1 last time out but the table looks to be a false one with Spartak Moscow and Villarreal both struggling.

Those sides should improve to make this the tight section that we we all expecting and we’re tipping that improvement to start with a Spartak win at Ibrox.

24 ties are set to go off on Thursday and hopefully these two tips will make it a profitable evening.
