Could Coral’s Player Options Revolutionise our Betting Strategy?

In recent months and years, we have seen a number of new innovations brought into the world of online gambling. These are intended to give us more in the way of options while increasing our enjoyment and they seem to be getting more creative all the time.

The most recent of these involves Coral and a scheme that will effectively enable you to create your own markets, taking a specific player in a match and speculating on one, or a number of possible outcomes involving that particular selection.

The Mechanics

The promotion went live in the UK and Ireland on October 28, 2016 and is initially for a limited period but naturally, if all goes well, we can expect to see this introduced on a permanent basis. During this time it will be available on the following four sports.

Football, American Football, Basketball, Rugby League

Again, this may change in the future and while these sports are more suited to player betting, it would be a logical step to add cricket or rugby union as two possible examples.

So what about the stakes themselves?

Options

Coral’s Press Release lists a number of combined options, all of which come in the football markets.

  • As one example, you can take a single bet on David Silva to make at least 75 passes in a game for Manchester City against Manchester United.
  • Then there is a combined player bet – in this case, Diego Costa and Jamie Vardy to combine for at least eight shots on target.
  • Finally there is a head to head option so you could perhaps back Paul Pogba to make more tackles in a match than Jordan Henderson.

It’s easy to see how these examples can be transferred to other sports: would, a certain NFL player produce more rushing yards than an opponent in the other team? In Rugby League, would two players combine to score more than a certain amount of tries?

Getting Involved

Anyone wishing to get involved with Coral’s offering -as displayed in our Coral review– will have to download the specific player proposition app. Once everything is installed, they will then have to suggest, or proposition a bet to the software.

For example, you might want to bet on Harry Kane getting six or more shots on target in a game against Arsenal. Input your request, the software will calculate the odds and you can then decide whether to follow up your suggestion with a real money stake from your Coral account.

The software in question is provided by a company called Digital Sports Tech whose Executive Director Ari Lewski said,

Player based betting is an untapped and therefore major growth area for the industry. There is huge demand for player related betting opportunities from punters, which you could argue has evolved from the growing popularity of fantasy sports.

We’re absolutely delighted to be working with Coral. They’re obviously a major brand in the betting industry with great heritage, and they’ve been a very proactive partner.

In theory, it is an exciting innovation but it will be interesting to see if it is embraced by the betting community. For those who are intrigued, player proposition betting is available right away over at Coral.
