Chelsea v Spurs: Pivotal Point in Season for both Teams
We’ve a busy midweek schedule of Premier League fixtures and at Stamford Bridge, we have two teams firmly involved in the fight for Champions League places. Neither Chelsea nor Spurs are in particularly good form right now so could this be a cagey game with both sides afraid to lose?
The bookmakers have certainly quoted a tight market so let’s see if we can make some sense of things and pick some profits for Wednesday night’s contest.
Date: 27 February, 2019
That close market carries odds against prices on all three potential outcomes but it’s Chelsea who lead things off at a best of 6/4 with Unibet and Black Type. Victory for Tottenham follows at 2/1 with Betway while the draw completes matters at 12/5 with BetFred and 888Sport.
Spurs lead the form table and had won four straight games prior to defeat at Burnley at the weekend. Chelsea, meanwhile, have won just two of their previous five and that run began with a heavy 6-0 defeat away to Manchester City.
There is always a concern that Tottenham will be vulnerable on the run in. Overall form is strong and they are getting plenty of support in the markets but Chelsea remain a threatening, if slightly fragmented side at the moment. The home win looks the most likely outcome and 6/4 certainly isn’t a bad price.
Individual Goal Scorers
Tottenham’s Harry Kane returned from injury to score in that Burnley defeat and the England striker is favourite to open the scoring here. Kane is available at best odds of 17/4 with Betway, just ahead of Chelsea’s Gonzalo Higuain who is at 19/4 with Betway again.
Two players then follow at a top price of 21/4 with Unibet and 888Sport: Son Heung-Min was Spurs’ main source of goals during Kane’s absence while on the opposite side of the pitch, Eden Hazard is a potent threat for Chelsea.
Other players to consider in this market include Willian at 9/1 with Betway and BetBright, Christian Eriksen at 12/1 with William Hill and Ladbrokes plus N’golo Kante at a tempting 24/1 with Unibet and 888Sport.
There are some good value prices in there but we’re heading back towards the top of the market and nominating Gonzalo Higuain. The Argentine has made a subdued start at Stamford Bridge but Spurs have a habit of letting top strikers regain their form and Higuain looks primed for a telling contribution on Wednesday night.
Other Side Bets
Chelsea have been lacking firepower all round as of late but if we’re backing them to win here then the Both Teams to Score bet looks to be a logical option. It’s odds on as expected but this market doesn’t look prohibitively short at best industry odds of 7/10 with SportingBet.
Alternatively, we could cross to the Overs and Unders markets for our final tip of the evening. The most common option here would be to opt for Over 2.5 and that would drop in at 9/10 with 188Bet but we think you can be braver for this match and take Over 3.5 which is available at 9/4 with Unibet and 888Sport.
Chelsea aren’t exactly full of goals at the moment and Spurs’ defence has remained tight but this is one of those derby matches which frequently upsets the trends. You really can throw the form book out of the window for Chelsea v Spurs and that’s why we’re getting firmly behind the home win.
Manager Maurizio Sarri is under fire for a number of reasons but Spurs looked shaky at Burnley and could be vulnerable over a long week that culminates in another derby clash against North London rivals Arsenal.
A correct score of Chelsea 3 Spurs 1 could also be thrown into the mix and that is available at 18/1 with William Hill and Coral. However, we’ll keep our own tips a little more modest and hope for a profitable 90 minutes at Stamford Bridge.
- Chelsea at win at 6/4 with Black Type
- Gonzalo Higuain to score the first goal at 19/4 with Betway
- Over 3.5 Goals at 9/4 with Unibet
