Chelsea v Manchester City: League Leaders Looking to Get Back on Track

Chelsea v Manchester City

Following their surprise defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday, pundits are just starting to wonder whether Chelsea’s run to the Premier League title is as certain as we previously thought. Losing at home to a relegation threatened side isn’t ever ideal but the Blues have some tough fixtures coming up, starting with Wednesday night’s tie with Manchester City.

City took a point from Sunday’s match at Arsenal and will be looking for another positive outcome in London so how do the bookies see this one shaping up?

Match Odds

That home defeat to Palace ended a long winning run but despite that, Chelsea remain the form team in the league and are therefore logical favourites at best odds of 6/4 with William Hill and MarathonBet to take the points here.

Elsewhere, a win for Manchester City is currently priced at a best of 11/5 with Bet365 while the draw completes this market at 12/5 with BetBright and William Hill.

If Chelsea had picked up another routine win in that game against Palace, many would have just marked this as a victory for the Blues. Despite that setback, you have to look at the context of the match which Antonio Conte’s men dominated for long periods. Overall, Manchester City’s form is patchy so this really should result in another home win.

Individual Goal Scorers

This game could come down to a shoot out between two top strikers and it’s Chelsea’s Diego Costa who leads the first goal scorer betting at a top price of 7/2 with 32Red. The Spanish international has 18 goals in 31 league matches so far in this campaign and while he may be going through a relatively lean spell, it’s unlikely to last for long.

Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero did hit the target this weekend and the striker is second favourite to find the net first at a top price of 19/4 with 888Sport. That is City’s best option but it’s back to Chelsea for a figure that interests us – 6/1 on Eden Hazard to open the scoring with Bet365 and William Hill.

Like Costa, the Belgian is back on form after a lean spell in 2015/16 and with 11 goals this season, he is our first tip for an anytime goal at best odds of 21/10 with 32Red and 888Sport.

Other very good potential picks in the anytime goal scorer markets include Leroy Sane at 4/1 with Paddy Power and as an outside bet, Gary Cahill can be dangerous at set pieces and looks a really good pick at best odds of 12/1 with Paddy Power once again.

Other Side Bets

Both Teams to Score will be considered by many as a safe option for Wednesday night’s game and you can currently pick this up at a top price of 8/13 with Paddy Power. There are tight defences in either camp and Chelsea’s mean record at the back is one of the reasons why they remain seven points clear at the top of the table but just look at the fire power in these sides.

With Aguero back in the goals and Sane backing him up for City, the visitors should find the net at least once while Chelsea should always be scoring at home, even against the top sides.

In other options, if you’re with us and favouring a Chelsea win then the half time / full time bet of draw then Chelsea is excellent value at a best of 27/5 with 188Bet. Winning margin could also reflect a tight game with Chelsea to win by one at 41/13 with 188Bet or Manchester City to win by one at 4/1 with Bet365.

It should be a thriller at the very least and for UK viewers it’s live on BT Sport at 8pm. A bet on the match could enhance your enjoyment but which way should you go? Chelsea have shown that they are not unbeatable but they retain that lead at the top because they have been the best side by a distance all season and we expect them to get back to winning ways on Wednesday.

Best Bets

  • Chelsea to win at 6/4 with William Hill
  • Eden Hazard to score anytime at 21/10 with 32Red
