Chelsea v Manchester United: Sarri Hopes to Pile Misery on Mourinho
The Premier League is back on Saturday lunchtime, and what a cracker we have in prospect as Jose Mourinho returns to Stamford Bridge once again with his Manchester United side to take on his former employers, Chelsea – kick-off 12:30 BST – in the stand-out fixture of the weekend.
Hosts Chelsea are in a three way tie at the top of the Premier League standings on 20 points along with Manchester City and Liverpool. United, by contrast, are lagging seven points behind in the standings, with the knives out for Mourinho and his team’s efforts so far this season.
United also have a horrendous recent away record against the Blues in West London. The Red Devils have not won at Stamford Bridge since 2012 in the Premier League, and have only managed to score twice in their league trips in between.
It does seem as though Chelsea are the firm favourites to take the spoils, but this is the Premier League and anything can happen.
As you would expect, Chelsea are the bookmakers’ favourites to claim the spoils on Saturday afternoon. Maurizio Sarri’s side are a best-priced 78/100 with William Hill to remain at least joint-top of the table after this weekends’ fixtures.
The Draw can be backed at 29/10 with Unibet, while a victory for Mourinho and the Red Devils is available with Unibet once again at the best industry odds of 21/5.
Unbeaten Chelsea have dropped just four points so far this season, against West Ham and Liverpool. New boss, Mauricio Sarri has seamlessly guided his new team together so far this season, as the Blues look to be contenders for the title once again.
United are struggling for form and continuity. After being 2-0 down at home to lowly Newcastle in their last Premier League outing, United galvanised themselves in a second half effort to claim a 3-2 victory. Their defensive frailties are there for all to see however – just one clean sheet in eight Premier League games – and it would take a brave punter to back United to keep out a rampant Chelsea side on home turf.
Individual Goal Scorers
Chelsea have averaged 2.25 goals per game so far this season in the Premier League, with Belgian attacking wizard, Eden Hazard scoring in seven of their eight matches so far. The league’s leading goal scorer Hazard, is a best priced 22/5 with MarathonBet to open the scoring. Also note that the former Lille man is the Blues’ penalty taker, which enhances your potential with this bet.
Spanish striker, Alvaro Morata was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford before signing for Chelsea last year, is a 5/1 chance with 10Bet and Sport Pesa. Morata scored a spectacular header in a 1-0 win against United in the corresponding fixture last season and would like nothing more to continue that run.
Fellow Chelsea attackers, Olivier Giroud and Pedro follow next in the betting at 11/2 and 23/4 respectively with 10Bet, which highlights the bookmakers’ belief of Chelsea’s supremacy over their rivals from Manchester.
Romelu Lukaku is United’s first option in the betting for First Goalscorer. The Belgian striker is an 8/1 chance with BetBright to break the deadlock. Lukaku has hit four Premier League goals so far this season, and considering he is United’s main striker under Jose Mourinho, he has to be taken seriously here.
Others to consider include recent England team-mates, but opponents on Saturday, Marcus Rashford of Manchester United at 41/4 with MarathonBet, while Chelsea’s Ross Barkley Is an 11/1 poke with BetBright. Marcos Alonso is worthy of a mention at 18/1 with Black Type.
Other Side Bets
With United’s appalling recent record at Stamford Bridge, I would steer clear of backing Both Teams to Score in this fixture – even at the tempting odds of 13/16 with 188BET. The 21/20 on offer with 888Sport for both teams not to score is slightly more appealing, but isn’t interesting enough to be involved.
It is a little difficult to call this game with any real conviction, considering the recent international break, and my dislike for punting in early kick offs, due to some odd results on occasions. However, putting that aside, the 7/4 on offer from Ladbrokes for Chelsea to be leading at Half Time and Full Time is worth a nibble, provided the game goes to recent form.
If Mourinho takes his usual defensive style and ineffective attacking intent to Stamford Bridge again, there is only one way this result will go – and it will end in defeat for United. A price of 7/4 is worth the chance of that happening in my view.
Our usual Correct Score bet is for a 2-1 win for Chelsea at 39/5 with MarathonBet, in what could be another uncomfortable afternoon for Jose and his team at Stamford Bridge.
- Chelsea to be leading the game at Half Time and Full Time at 7/4 with Ladbrokes
- Eden Hazard First Goal Scorer at 22/5 with MarathonBet
- Chelsea 2-1 Manchester United Correct Score bet at 39/5 with MarathonBet.
