Chelsea v Arsenal: Gunners a Value Option in London Derby?

If you’ve felt that the start of the new Premier League season has been quiet in terms of the big games, that’s all set to change this weekend, particularly on Sunday where the day kicks off with Chelsea hosting Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.

The defending champions suffered that shock defeat at home to Burnley on the opening day of the season but since then Antonio Conte’s men have looked in excellent touch as they march up the table once again.

For Arsenal, it’s been a difficult start to the new campaign and while Arsene Wenger’s team have won both of their home matches, they have yet to take a single point on the road so is the result going to be something of a foregone conclusion?

Taking all of the factors into account and it will surprise nobody to see Chelsea leading the result market at a top price of 41/50 with MarathonBet. The draw is effectively the second favourite at 3/1 with bet365 and SportingBet while a victory for Arsenal is priced out at best odds of 15/4 with Betway.

It is certainly worth remembering that Arsenal have beaten Chelsea in the last two games between these two sides. Those wins came in the FA Cup Final at the end of 2016/17 followed by victory in the Community Shield at the start of this season so it could certainly be argued that the Gunners raise their game against the big sides.

It’s perhaps not as easy as the market suggests and a draw looks good at that 3/1 figure but let’s assess the remainder of our options before committing to a result.

Individual Goal Scorers

Alvaro Morata has enjoyed a productive start to his Chelsea career and the Spanish international forward is favourite to open the scoring at a top price of 7/2 with bet365 and Sun Bets. Morata’s team mate Michy Batshuayi is next at best odds of 5/1 with 10Bet while Eden Hazard is back to full fitness and an option at a best of 6/1 with SunBets.

Arsenal first get a mention with Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud, both of whom can be picked up at a top price of 7/1. Sanchez is at that figure with Sun Bets and 888Sports while Giroud’s 7/1 is provided by 10Bet. Both men started and Sanchez scored in the win over Koln in midweek but you have to consider whether they will be dropped back to the bench for the Chelsea game.

A better option would be Alexandre Lacazette – a more likely starter and an in-form striker who is quoted at best odds of 15/2 with bet365. Lacazette could also be a tempter at 28/13 with 32Red for an anytime goal.

We’ll take our first confirmed tip from the anytime goal markets. Eden Hazard was productive for us last season and the Belgian is worth backing at best odds of 7/4 with Paddy Power or Betway for a goal in 90 minutes.

Other Side Bets

We’ve seen some high scoring matches between these sides over the years but it’s worth bearing in mind that Arsenal have yet to score away from the Emirates this season. Chelsea have been in good touch, even in that opening 2-3 defeat to Burnley but against a potentially tighter defence, this could be a subdued afternoon in front of goal.

Taking all of those factors into account, betting under the 2.5 goal line could be the way to go here and this bet is currently available at best odds of 34/25 with MarathonBet. That seems a good price if Arsenal play to their potential and make it a tight contest.

The Gunners really hold the key to this fixture. We know they have been slow starters in 2017/18 and that dismal away record doesn’t offer much hope but against the better sides they can raise their game. Hopefully this will be one of those days as we’re tipping the draw which looks good value at that 3/1 price with bet365.
