Celta Vigo v Manchester United: United Targeting Positive Result from First Leg
It’s semi final time in the Europa League and Manchester United will know that they are just three games away from the real prize – a place in next season’s Champions League. That’s the reward for whoever lifts the trophy so, even if Jose Mourinho’s men finish outside of the Premier League top four as expected, they can still join Europe’s elite.
There should be a tense atmosphere in Spain this Thursday therefore, when United tackle a Celta Vigo side who had been showing some decent form in La Liga up until the start of April.
United concede home advantage but are the odds-against favourites to win on the night and can be taken at a best price of 20/11 with MarathonBet. Celta Vigo are quoted at best odds of 21/10 with Ladbrokes while the draw completes the market at a top price of 9/4 with MarathonBet.
Those are the odds for the result in 90 minutes so let’s look at the To Qualify betting where United lead the way again at 2/5 with William Hill and Celta are at 5/2 with Ladbrokes.
Celta Vigo are down in 11th place in La Liga and that is one reason why they are very much the outside bet for this game. They have also lost three games in succession but prior to that were undefeated in three.
As for Manchester United, they are unbeaten in that same six game period but are drawing too many matches. They dropped points again at the weekend to relegation candidates Swansea, and after a draw in Anderlecht in the last round, we’re looking at another drawn 90 minutes so 9/4 with MarathonBet looks a good option at a good price.
Individual Goal Scorers
Given those result prices it may surprise many to see a Celta Vigo player lead the way in the first goal scorer betting. Former Liverpool striker Iago Aspas endured a miserable time at Anfield but averages around a goal every other game in La Liga and he starts things off here at best odds of 6/1 with Betway and Winner Sports.
Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford follows at a top price of 25/4 with MarathonBet and 10Bet while former Manchester City player John Guidetti is another Celta Vigo option at 7/1 with 10Bet and Winner Sports.
Guidetti’s record is poor by comparison but our tip here reverts to Manchester United where Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s record in Europe is outstanding with five goals in eight matches. The Armenian is 17/2 with 10Bet to open the scoring and our tip for an anytime goal at 18/5 with 10Bet again.
Other Side Bets
Our remaining tips are based on United’s away performances in the Europa League this year and they haven’t always been that impressive. A 1-1 draw in Belgium, when Mourinho’s men were hot favourites to win on the night is fairly typical so we’re looking at under 2.5 goals in this game which comes in at 4/7 with Coral and 888Sport.
As for the result, we’re backing the draw but if you are favouring a win for either team, the winning margin bet could reflect a tight match where United to win by one is at a top price of 16/5 with Paddy Power while Celta Vigo by one is quoted at a best of 7/2 with Coral.
We are however, tipping United’s modest away form in Europe to continue with a 1-1 correct score looking good at 28/5 with 32Red but we’ll play a fraction safer with Thursday night’s best bets.
