Bayern Munich v Real Madrid: Germans Clear Favourites for Crucial First Leg
This would have been a fitting final of this season’s Champions League but as it is, either Bayern Munich or Real Madrid will be out of the competition at a relatively early stage. In tight games such as these, it’s said that sides prefer to be drawn away in the first leg and that may be the case for Real but the odds on the Spaniards seem surprisingly long.
Coming into this match, Bayern Munich are very short, odds on favourites and can be backed at best odds of 4/5 with the likes of bet365 and BetBright. Real are the outside bet at a best price of 39/10 with 888Sport and MarathonBet while the draw comes in at 3/1 with bet365 and Stan James.
Remember, those are the odds for the first leg only while the prices for qualification see Bayern at 8/11 with Betway and Real out at 33/25 with MarathonBet. Both sides are leading their respective domestic leagues but while Madrid have slightly better form, clearly the bookies feel that the strength of the German squad far outweighs that of their opponents.
Individual Goal Scorers
While we consider the match betting, let’s switch for now to the first goal scorer market and weigh up the men who can decide the destiny of this first leg. Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski is the favourite to open the scoring and can currently be backed at best odds of 3/1 with William Hill and Winner Sports.
The Polish striker remains in great form for his club and at this stage of the 2016/17 campaign has an incredible tally of 38 goals in 40 games. That’s not a particularly great price in this market but with such a return, we have to make this our first confirmed tip of the match.
Other options here include Arjen Robben and Thomas Muller, both of whom can be picked up at a best of 11/2 with bet365 while Cristiano Ronaldo is Real Madrid’s first representative at a top price of 6/1 with 32Red and 888Sport.
Moving on from the first goal scorer and you can get some interesting figures for the anytime scorer bet. Gareth Bale is back to full fitness for Real and looks to offer some value at his best of 14/5 with 32Red.
Sergio Ramos is another Madrid player to watch and, as a threat from set pieces, he will interest many at excellent odds of 10/1 with 188Bet.
Other Side Bets
We’ve gone slightly high with the prices for our first two tips so for our final bet, we’re going for something a lot shorter by backing Both Teams to Score, which is currently quoted at best odds of 11/17 with either 10Bet or 188Bet. With so much attacking talent on both sides, there are players who can turn this into a high scoring match and this could be one of the safer options over the course of 90 minutes.
As for the game itself, this is promising to be a really tight affair and, although the German side put 10 goals past Arsenal in the last round, Real Madrid are going to provide a much tougher test. We are looking at a victory for Bayern Munich in this first leg but best odds of 4/5 are far from tempting so it’s over to the side markets where there is much better value.
- Robert Lewandowksi to score the first goal at 3/1 with bet365
- Sergio Ramos to score anytime at 10/1 with 188Bet
- Both Teams to Score at 11/17 with 10Bet
