Bayern Munich v Liverpool: Tie on the line after Anfield Stalemate
This Round of 16 tie is very much in the balance after Bayern Munich and Liverpool drew 0-0 at Anfield three weeks ago. Since then, the sides have largely maintained good form in the league so who will ease through into the quarter finals?
With at least two English sides in the hat, Liverpool will be even more anxious not to miss out so let’s see what the bookies make of it all.
Event Date: 13 March, 2019
It’s a tight market for the result in 90 minutes but Bayern are marginally ahead at best industry odds of 23/20 with 888Sport and BetFred. A win for Liverpool is next on the list at 12/5 with Coral and Black Type while the draw completes the market at 28/11 with 10Bet and Unibet.
With the tie deadlocked, we could expect the prices in the To Qualify market to be similar and in fact, the bookmakers can’t split the two teams. Both Liverpool and Bayern Munich are available at best industry odds of 19/20 with 188Bet to make it through to the quarter finals.
If we look at the form guide, we see that Bayern are looking ominous having put six past Wolfsburg without reply at the weekend. Overall, the German side have won four of their last five games, scoring 16 and the only blip on that permanent record was the 0-0 draw at Anfield last month.
Liverpool overcame an early scare against Burnley before coming from behind to take all three points and that victory gives the Reds an overall record of two wins and three draws in their last five matches.
With odds against numbers on all three possible 90 minute outcomes, there is going to be some value here if we make the right call but which way will it go? Liverpool have been lacklustre in games of late and would have been desperate for an advantage in the first leg but they certainly have the quality to turn this around. Last week’s Champions League ties saw Ajax and Manchester United come through in unlikely circumstances and we think Liverpool can do the same. Betting is mostly about stats and form but sometimes it just boils down to a hunch and we’re backing Klopp’s men for the upset.
Individual Goal Scorers
Some world class striking talent is on show in this game so it’s perhaps a little surprising that the first leg of this tie finished goalless. In the first goalscorer market, Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski starts as favourite and he can be claimed at best odds of 17/5 with Unibet. Liverpool’s Mo Salah then follows at a top price of 11/2 with Betway.
Elsewhere, Daniel Sturridge is on offer at 7/1 with BetFred and 888Sport but he’s unlikely to start so we’ll move back a little further to Sadio Mane at best odds of 8/1 with SportNation and RedZoneSports.
In a game where there is so much of a threat from all areas of the pitch, there are plenty of additional options and you can also consider Roberto Firmino at 8/1 with 10Bet, Serge Gnabry at 17/2 with Sport Pesa or James Rodriguez at that same 17/2 with RedZoneSports.
As we’re looking at a Liverpool win in 90 minutes we’ll go for the obvious bet this time and opt for Mo Salah. His second season on Anfield hasn’t been quite so prolific as the first but clearly he remains Liverpool’s biggest threat and the man they will rely upon if they are to get through.
Other Side Bets
Strangely for Liverpool, they have been relatively goal-shy in recent weeks. We mentioned that record of two wins and a draw from their last five and Jurgen Klopp’s men have failed to score in three of those matches. As for Bayern Munich, they thumped Wolfsburg 6-0 at the weekend and have a much better tally of 15 goals in their last five games.
Those stats are mixed in terms of predicting the Both Teams to Score bet but the price looks a little short anyway at a best of 11/17 with 10Bet. Instead, we’ll just finish with a correct score tip of Bayern Munich 1 Liverpool 2 which is quoted at best odds of 11/1 with SportingBet.
We’ve taken a few punts here but hopefully our hunch is correct and remember, all of these tips are for 90 minutes only.
- Liverpool to win at 12/5 with Coral
- Mohamed Salah to score the first goal at 11/2 with Betway
- Correct Score of Bayern Munich 1 Liverpool 2 at 11/1 with SportingBet
