Barcelona v PSG: Can hosts overturn a four goal deficit?
They may be hot favourites on the night but Barcelona have to do more than just win when they meet PSG in the Nou Camp on Wednesday. A disastrous first leg saw the Catalan giants go down by four goals to nil to the Ligue 1 outfit so while Barca are odds on to win it in 90 minutes, they are not so short when it comes to progression into the quarter finals.
Dealing with the match itself we find Barcelona listed at a best of 4/9 and that price is almost across the board with Stan James and Paddy Power among those quoting it. The draw in 90 minutes is listed at 22/5 with MarathonBet while a win for PSG is available at a top price of 32/5 with MarathonBet once again.
The figure that really jumps off the page for us there is that 32/5 on a victory for Paris St-Germain. OK so they are conceding home advantage but having won 4-0 in that first leg – a result that certainly didn’t flatter them – it might be worth considering a small wager at that figure.
Many will be interested in the ‘to qualify’ market and this currently shows Barcelona at a best of 10/1 with Bet365 and 888Sport to progress while PSG are, as you would expect, heavily odds on favourites at 1/12 with 188Bet to make it into the next round.
Individual Goal Scorer
We’ll come back to the result but for now, the first goal scorer market is dominated by Barcelona players and it starts off with Lionel Messi who is favourite to open the scoring at 3/1 with BetFred and Paddy Power. The Argentinian has continued his prolific streak this season but there is better value in his team mates, including Luis Suarez who is just fractionally higher at 31/10 with BetBright.
Elsewhere, Neymar is on offer at a price of 5/1 with Coral and Ladbrokes while many will be looking for PSG’s Edinson Cavani who starts in this market at a best price of 11/2 with BetBright.
Cavani put the gloss on that 4-0 win with the final goal and looks the most likely to score if PSG do find the net. Therefore, the striker is definitely worth considering in the anytime goal markets, where he can be backed at a top price of 9/5 with 32Red.
Other Side Bets
This will be a fascinating game for the neutral as Barca will have to attack right away so there should be some entertainment from the very start. They have that huge four goal deficit to overturn so may well leave themselves a little open at the back as they pour forward in search of goals.
With that in mind, the Both Teams to Score Bet offers some decent value on the night at a best price of 4/7 with Paddy Power. Meanwhile, there will be tons of interest in the overs and unders markets, starting with over the 2.5 goals line which is currently available at 2/5 with 32Red.
However, over 4.5 is more eye catching and in what should be a very open game, this is currently listed at a best of 23/10 with 32Red once again.
Finally, you just know that some lucky punter is going to win big in the correct score market. This is the type of game that could see lots of goals and is therefore even more unpredictable than normal so how about a 4-1 result in favour of Barcelona in 90 minutes which is quoted at best odds of 17/1 with Paddy Power.
As for the result, PSG were incredible in the first leg and it would be a huge surprise if they didn’t go through. We’re backing Barca to win on the night but the only way you can get any value on that is to find a new customer enhanced odds deal so for now, we’re concentrating on the side markets for Wednesday’s game.
- Luis Suarez to score the first goal at 31/10 with BetBright
- Edinson Cavani to score anytime at 9/5 with 32Red
- Both Teams to Score at 4/7 with Paddy Power
