Atletico Madrid v Chelsea: Battle of the Giants in Group C

Atletico Madrid vs Chelsea

This week’s round of Champions League games has given us a huge clash in Group C where Atletico Madrid, who have twice been runners up in the last five years, tackle the 2012 Champions Chelsea.

The British club actually have the points advantage in this section with victory over Qarabag in the opening round of matches while Atleti could only draw their first game with Roma so this is a perfect chance for either team to take a vital three points.

Needless to say, this is a massive fixture from a betting point of view and the bookies have a very tight market in the lead up to the game.

Match Odds

It’s rare for Chelsea to go into any match as the outsiders but that’s the case here. Atletico Madrid are the favourites to take all three points and the Spaniards can be backed at best odds of 6/5 with bet365 and 32Red while the draw is out at a top price of 58/25 with MarathonBet.

Chelsea, meanwhile, complete the result betting at best odds of 71/25 with MarathonBet once again so how do we possibly pick a winner?

Form is almost identical in the lead up to kick off: Madrid have won four and drawn two of their last six matches while Chelsea have won five and drawn just one over the same period of time. It’s so tight that we’ll come back to the result and for now, we’ll take a look at the players who can decide the destiny of this fixture.

Individual Goal Scorers

Atleti players start things off in the first goal scorer betting with Antoine Griezmann leading the way. The French International is on offer at best odds of 22/5 with 32Red and 888Sport to find the net first while his team mate Kevin Gameiro follows at a top price of 5/1 with Paddy Power and Sun Bets.

Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata scored a hat trick against Stoke at the weekend but only finds himself in third place in the betting at best odds of 11/2 to score the first goal on Wednesday night. Former Chelsea player Fernando Torres can be found at a best of 6/1 with bet365 and 888Sport while Eden Hazard could be an outside punt from midfield at a top price of 8/1 with 888Sport and 32Red.

A number of those names have already hit top form this season although the stand out is Morata. The former Real Madrid man would love to find the net against some old rivals and he is our first tip of the day at 11/5 with 32Red in the anytime goalscorer markets.

Other Side Bets

Chelsea are scoring freely at the start of the season and have the quality up front to find the net, even though they are away from home against a tight defence. Both Teams to Score is therefore the obvious option here and this would currently come in at best odds of 11/10 with Paddy Power and 10Bet.

The fact that the bet is odds against (You can back No in this market at 3/4 with Ladbrokes) suggests a value option. However, the bookies may be right in expecting a tight game so under 2.5 goals could be the way to go at a top price of 5/8 with 188Bet.

There are lots of alternatives if you do subscribe to the theory that this will be a low scorer: In the winning margin betting for example, either side to win it by one goal is on offer at a tempting 5/4 with Betway.

Any of these suggestions could replace the following tips which are a little conservative so you may also want to look at a correct score of 1-1 which is available at odds of 21/4 with Winner Sports. Form and the relative quality of the two line ups suggests that Atletico Madrid and Chelsea may cancel each other out on Wednesday night so a low scoring draw may look like the most logical outcome right now.
