Arsenal v Manchester United: Losers Destined for Europa League?
There are plenty of important Premier League fixtures on the way this weekend but this is surely the most vital of them all. Champions League football should be a minimum target for both of these sides but as they sit outside of the top four, defeat for either is likely to mean they will finish outside of the qualifying places for Europe’s elite competition.
There is so much at stake for Sunday’s late kick off but which way is it going to go?
The bookies are very much siding with Arsenal and ahead of kick off, most of them have the Gunners as odds on favourites with a best price available of 101/100 with MarathonBet. Elsewhere, the draw comes in at best odds of 11/4 with Boylesports while a win for Manchester United can be taken at a top price of 16/5 with bet365.
That figure for the Gunners has to be based largely on home advantage because, when you consider form over the last six games, United’s is significantly better. Arsenal have won four and lost two across that period while the Red Devils have also won four but have drawn the other two fixtures.
It all suggests that the two teams will cancel each other out and of those three options, a draw is nicely priced at 11/4.
Individual Goal Scorers
Arsenal’s strikers appeared a little toothless in their defeat at Spurs last weekend but with home advantage this time they have a better chance of opening the scoring. Gunners’ players therefore occupy the top two places in the first goal scorer betting with Chilean striker Alexis Sanchez favourite at best odds of 43/10 with MarathonBet and France’s Olivier Giroud close behind at a top price of 9/2 with bet365 and Winner Sports.
Arsenal continue to dominate this market with former United player Danny Welbeck the next option at a best of 11/2 with bet365 and Paddy Power while Theo Walcott follows at 13/2 with SkyBet and William Hill.
Manchester United finally get a look in with Marcus Rashford quoted at a top price of 15/2 with bet365 while Wayne Rooney follows on at 17/2 with bet365 once again.
We are not expecting too many goals in a game where the first objective is not to lose and then hope to steal one on the counter. Of the names on this list, Marcus Rashford had a habit last season of scoring at the big occasions and while that trend hasn’t been quite so evident this year, the England striker looks a good option in the anytime markets at a best price of 27/10 with 10Bet.
Other Side Bets
Games between these two have on occasions been very entertaining and full of goals. There was a memorable 8-2 victory for United back in 2011 but the Gunners have had their revenge since. On Sunday however, we think it will be a little different.
Neither side is in great form and a cagey, tight contest may well be decided by just one goal and that gives us a number of options for the third tip of the day. Under 2.5 goals looks strong at best odds of 26/25 with MarathonBet while the winning margin option is also a contender with either team to win by one goal available at a top price of 11/8 with Betway.
We’re going for under 2.5 here in what could be a tense and extremely tight contest. It could even be goalless with a 0-0 scoreline quoted at 11/1 with William Hill and 188Bet but hopefully it will be an entertaining and a profitable afternoon.
